The etymology of the name of this plateau is related to an old folk legend according to which a young sorceress drowned in the river. While guarding sheep during a stormy summer rain, the protector of this land fell and drowned in the swollen river Crna Kamenica.
To preserve the memory of the tragic event, the entire area was given the old Slavic name Divčibare, translated as “Devojačke bare” (“Maidens ponds”).

Crni vrh Divčibare
It is the second largest peak of the Maljen mountain, and it offers a spectacular view of the surroundings. Its height is 1098 m. From the east and south, you can see the mountains Suvobor, Kablar, Ovčar and the village of Subjel, while from the west you can see the mountains Jablanik, Medvenik, Povlen and Magleš.
Keep in mind that the hiking trail to this peak is considered one of the more demanding, so if you are not ready for something more extreme hiking, you can also make it by cable car.
Skakalo waterfall
It is considered an unsurpassed gem that is as high as 30 m.

What to visit in Divčibare – the cultural heritage of the mountain plateau
Divčibare has a rich cultural heritage, which is imprinted and preserved in many landmarks.
There are several monasteries nearby, such as the Ćelije monastery, which was built in the 13th century, the Jovanja monastery from the 15th century, and the Lelić monastery, whose foundations were built at the beginning of the 20th century.

This ski trail stretches for approximately 600 meters along the northern slopes of the mountain. The slope of the track is somewhat sharper, and the drop is steeper, which means that it is not suitable for beginners, but only for experienced skiers.
Night skiing is definitely a special pleasure – the “Centar” trail is the only one with lighting, so you can safely ski at night and enjoy the starry sky.
Also, near the “Zmaj” and “Stražar” resorts, there are 3 smaller ski slopes that are ideal for those who just want to try skiing. A ski school is open for all children during the winter season.
During the summer season, the cable car at Crni vrh is open, so visitors can enjoy a panoramic ride and a view of the entire area!
